The Art and Design College in Tianjin University of Science and Technology was formerly known as the Department of Industrial Art Engineering in Tianjin Institute of Light Industry, which was founded in 1985. In 2002, Tianjin Institute of Light Industry was renamed Tianjin University of Science and Technology, and the same year, the Art and Design College was founded. Currently, the college has more than 2000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is a large-scale, comprehensively specialized, well-equipped art and design college in China, integrating professional education, creative design, theoretical research, and social practice. It has a certain influence in the field.
The college has two master's authorized points in Design Study and Design, with a total of 7 undergraduate majors including "Product Design, Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Fashion and Accessory Design, Public Art, Animation, and Performance". The college has a strong faculty of more than 100 teachers. The Design Study is a first-level discipline and a key construction discipline of Tianjin. The major in Fashion and Accessory Design is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point. The Product Design major and Animation major are the first batch of brand majors in Tianjin. The Product Design major and Visual Communication Design major are the first-class undergraduate major construction points in Tianjin. The Visual Communication Design major and Fashion and Accessory Design major are applied majors in Tianjin. The Art and Design Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the college is a provincial and ministerial teaching platform, and each major has studios and research centers to build a professional practice platform for students' creations.
