Recently, at the launch ceremony of the Tianjin Social Science Popularization Week organized by the Tianjin Federation of Social Sciences, the college of Art and Design of our university was approved as a Tianjin Social Science Popularization Base.
College of Art and Design was established in 1985 and has a 40-year history of academic operation. While cultivating talents, the college has consistently emphasized the research and popularization of humanities. Particularly in recent years, the college has deepened its efforts in intangible cultural heritage (ICH) protection and innovation, completing over 60 municipal-level ICH research projects in Tianjin, as well as several provincial and ministerial-level projects themed on ICH. It was designated as the Tianjin Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base and has organized numerous ICH community outreach programs, campus activities, creative design exhibitions, and showcases. Leveraging the "Shangyi Lecture Hall" academic platform, the college has invited multiple representative ICH inheritors to deliver academic lectures, focusing on the creative research and innovative transformation of traditional arts and crafts within ICH, thereby promoting the popularization of China's outstanding traditional culture. In May of this year, the college of Art and Design achieved a breakthrough in the application for the "Jin-style Culture" special research projects, securing approval for seven projects at once.
Next, our university will fully leverage the advantages of our disciplines and majors, empower science popularization education through the arts, and carry out diversified thematic activities. We will adhere to the principles of cultivating people through culture, benefiting the public through culture, enriching the city through culture, and promoting industry through culture, thereby contributing the strength of higher education to the popularization of social sciences.
