College of Art and Design Reports Record Results in 2026 Student Competitions

The College of Art and Design at Tianjin University of Science and Technology (TUST) recently reported a new round of successes in academic and design competitions. Students won multiple national and provincial or ministerial awards, setting college records for the number and level of awards and the breadth of participation.

Building Skills Through Competition

Since the beginning of 2026, the college has organized nearly 1,000 students to enter high-level competitions. Faculty and students have received 413 awards and honors. At the national level, these included 14 first prizes, 25 second prizes and 58 third prizes, as well as 18 Outstanding Instructor honors. At the provincial or ministerial level, they received 56 first prizes, 77 second prizes and 119 third prizes, along with 46 Outstanding Instructor honors.

The results reflect sustained work by students in research, creative practice and experimentation, as well as close guidance from faculty. Competition projects have extended learning beyond the classroom and given students opportunities to strengthen their creative and professional skills through practice.

Integrating Competitions with Teaching

The college views the results as an outcome of its continuing teaching reforms and practice-based education, as well as its implementation of TUST's 3510 Strategic Initiative and Pioneer Program.

With the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, the college has incorporated creative and practical skill development throughout its programs. In line with university initiatives to strengthen undergraduate foundations, integrate research and teaching, improve innovation and entrepreneurship education, and enhance the teaching workforce, students apply classroom learning in real creative settings and develop professional skills through competition projects.

The college continues to refine its competition training and mentoring system. It connects entries, award-winning work and new ideas with coursework, research, social practice and university-industry collaboration, and turns competition resources into teaching resources. The goal is to prepare applied art and design graduates with artistic knowledge, creative ability and practical skills.

Next Steps

The college will continue to deepen the integration of industry and education and the integration of research and teaching. It encourages students to respond to industry needs and everyday life, strengthen their sense of responsibility through creative work, and improve their capacity for public service through practice.

Building on the 2026 results, the college will improve its competition preparation and mentoring mechanisms, expand the presentation and application of outstanding work, and make competition participation a regular and results-oriented part of education. It will also continue to use the Tianjin Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Art and Design to advance practice-based teaching, develop an open and shared innovation platform, and strengthen students' practical and creative capabilities.
